About Us

Our aim is to bring you distinctive wines which offer good value for money direct from bodegas that we know and trust. The vineyards are committed to producing wines of quality and consistency.

Alegria Wines was born of my passion for wine and a growing realisation that Spain offers a wide range of superlative wines that are increasing in number every year. Unfortunately, the availability of many of these wines on the Costa del Sol is very limited. The only solution was to go out on the highways and byways of Spain to find them for myself. In doing this I had one guiding principle - QPR Quality-Price Relationship. In other words, I was looking for Spanish red, white and rose wines that were reasonably priced and whose quality far exceeded that price. Furthermore, the bodegas (wineries, weinguten, caves) had to show evidence of consistency over a number of years and be committed to putting the quality of their wines before quantity of production.

After a lot of detailed research in books, magazines and tastings of their wines my journeys began. The wines that I offer are usually from small, family-run bodegas that I have visited at least twice. They are not available in supermarkets or shops and are, therefore, exclusive. Where possible I have chosen wines made from autochthonous (which means ‘native’) grape varieties since this is such a great strength of Spanish wines. As wine drinking is an individual pleasure - nobody can tell you what you must or should like - the wines chosen will appeal to a wide range of tastes.

I take particular care to ensure that the wines are stored in optimum conditions of temperature and humidity and that they are delivered from the bodega in the shortest possible time so that you can drink them at their best.
